Sustainable Communities

At Cabildo Ile Orisha, sustainability means more than caring for the earth—it also means caring for our people. As Lucumí practitioners, we hold the belief that feeding the community is a sacred and foundational act, a practice that strengthens bonds and ensures no one is left behind. In honoring Babalu-Aye (San Lázaro), the Orisha of healing and compassion, we have committed ourselves to feeding the unhoused and providing a food pantry for families in need. Food is not just nourishment; it is a bridge of love, dignity, and unity. By sharing meals, we are creating spaces where community can be restored, hope can be renewed, and neighbors can become family. For us, feeding the body is the first step in healing the spirit, and it is through this work that we continue our tradition of building community through care, generosity, and service.
